Like many of my more “durable” tunes, there are several recorded versions of this song but this is the first version.
This song has long been a “standard” in the live repertoire.
“Sans Souci” roughly means “without worry” and this title has always amused those who know me best because it’s an open secret that I’m a worrier.
This remains (to my mind) the “Greenwich Village/Beatnik” version because the flute sets up that vibe.
I like to play this song with violinist Gary Schulte (I have several gigs with him this summer and fall). Gary can always find the “soul” of these changes.
