This album was recorded entirely “live” in the studio with no overdubs. There is, without a doubt, a certain real spontaneity in recording this way.
Essentially the group just sets up in the studio, mics are arranged, the engineer gets levels, and the recording process is started.
As I recall we seldom needed more than three takes.
This song is one of the real staples in my live repertoire. I have a core of about 30 original pieces that are in my permanent set. I even remember the great fall day I came up with the riff. It’s funny how the enduring ones come simply.
