I don’t play or write Blues tunes often. This is an exception. I am joined by my usual cohorts Michael and Matt and on this piece Doug Haining.
Consequently, this recording is quite unlike much of my recorded output but I like it for that very reason. I think Doug’s solo has an almost “Paul Desmond” level of lyricism.
I have always found it difficult to improvise on a blues in a way that satisfies me. I find the blues form restricting. Though I love how people like Hank Mobley or Wes Montgomery can really make something out of a blues. On this particular tune I did improvise a solo I can more than live with.
