I have long been an admirer of French composer Maurice Ravel (1875-1937).
In fact, I am such a fan that I have twice visited his home/museum outside of Paris in Montfort L’Amaury. I even helped the museum with a little research when I dug up some reviews and articles about his 1927 tour of America.
This piece is called “Belvedere” because Ravel’s home is called L’Belvedere (beautiful view) and it does have a beautiful view of Rambouillet Forest.
The harmonies are as “Ravelian” as I can get and I “sneak in” a Ravel quote or two as well. In all, a very small tribute to a composer I admire above all others.
