I am not overly keen on recording cover tunes for a lot of reasons. This one however is one of Mary’s favorite songs (if not her favorite).
So back in the summer of 2005, I decided to record it. It is very probable that a more “crooning” singer would be more suited but I did my best.
The vocal requires a lot of control and is very hard to sing or at least it is for me.
The song does have a wonderful sense of drama that is undeniable though.
My long, long-time pal Zane Schaefer does the euphonium solo.
I love Harry Nilsson’s version very much. Harry nails it in my opinion.
As always, I think headphones help, especially to hear the acoustic bass and other details properly.
Be kind.
Love,
Reyn
