I have been revisiting several tracks from the 1995 CD album “House of Curiosities.” It was the follow-up to “Global Home Movie,” which remains my most successful recording in terms of reviews, airplay, and sales (and a MN Music Award nomination).
However, I got a little carried away with the lyrics on “House of Curiosities.”
I was trying to put together a “concept” that is difficult to put across in a song. I guess the underlying theme is that we are each (eventually) our own best teacher in a bewildering world.
That’s a bit deep and zen-like subject.
I still believe this, but it is not an idea easily conveyed. The Buddhists have a saying that says this clearly and simply, “be a lamp unto yourself.”
There is a sort of “magic” in how the instruments used here combine to create an appropriately “dreamy” atmosphere. I very much like the sonic landscape on this one.
Be kind.
Love,
Reyn
