It’s hard to believe that this album was recorded 16 years ago. This record seems more recent to me for some reason.

This entire album was recorded live in the studio. The title of this piece comes from the deep impressions the city of Rome made on me when I first visited it many years ago. (My very Roman Catholic upbringing probably held some sway in that regard.)

My original intention with this recording project was to combine the spontaneous yet realistically austere feel of an early 1960’s Blue Note recording with a little bit of Nuevo Tango. I think that goal was met. This was also the beginning of the group East Side which continues to this day in one form or another.

Clint and I really take our time in the improv sections so we get a chance to really thoughtfully explore the harmony which happily meanders.

This is a first take too. (Matt’s bass sound is “killer,” I think.)

If you put on headphones it’s just like being in the room. Sort of.

Be kind.
Love,
Reyn
