Many years ago a favorite high school teacher of mine told me about the ancient Latin maxim “ars est celare artem” which means the “art is to conceal the art.” That made a big impression on me. Later as my path as a musician became a bit more clear I came to the conclusion that I have a natural inclination toward “minimalism.”
The “less is more” concept is in line with that ancient maxim. One of my best endeavors in that area is the song “Chrysanthemum.” This piece employs a lot of “space” but has some interesting harmonic turns.
