There are several recorded versions of this song including a solo guitar version but I like this one because it seems the closest to my original intention. It stands up as a recorded artifact on its own and is not just an improv vehicle. Also, the violin and button accordion take it nearest it’s European roots.
The song is basically a Musette waltz with a couple of bars of 2/4 thrown in. And those 2/4 bars are not thrown in at random. I was jogging in the woods near my house one day and the circuitous route of monarch butterfly caught my attention. That suggested rhythm influenced the shape of the melody. This remains one of the most liked tunes in my live repertoire.
Stay well.
Be kind.
Love,
Reyn
