I listen quite frequently (while I jog each morning) to podcasts that focus a lot on the craft of songwriting. A common thing I hear from various songwriters of every kind is how the song or idea just comes at random.
Personally, I can’t design creativity. I just open myself up to “receiving” something. After the antenna is up, I can only troll or drift in hope.
Then, days or even months later something comes. What “it” is in terms of melody, harmony, subject, or even genre seems like something I didn’t negotiate.
Headphones are nice on this one because we created a nice stereo image on the solo guitar.
