Maybe it’s just me but this current situation has me reviewing my early life. Memories of the first years of my life are floating past in cascades. Which leads me to this song and memory.

A babushka is a term for a headscarf and also a Slavic term for grandmother. One of my grandmothers was born in Poland. We called her “babushka” and, incidentally, she always wore one.

I remember the red roses she raised each year. I remember the halting English she spoke because English just never became a natural way of expressing herself. I especially remember she called me “Ronyal” because she just couldn’t get the hang of Reynold.

Please take care in this time.
